Bummer. Good company, bad move.
Sad to see this change. After this announcement and Stack Overflow's explanation of the challenges they faced with OpenID (http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2010/04/openid-one-y ear-later/ ), I'm fearful of its future. We really need to see a set of bulletproof libraries to standardize its implementation, from both the provider and consumer sides.

Dan,
I have to say that so far I have been very impressed by the Federated Identity implementation in the Google App Engine. It makes it super easy for the developers to write apps using OpenID. I hope Google moves it out of the Experimental phase to full production soon.
Saqib
So a major problem there users were having was the "often flaky OpenID providers and couldn't log into their account". What if Twitter or Facebook or Disqus go belly up one day? Won't it just leave the problem where it is? This really solves nothing for them. It just keeps them at risk of the same problem later.
(I understand Facebook probably will always be here, but you still can't be sure they'll never change into a totally different beast that doesn't allow logging in elsewhere using your Facebook ID in 10 or 20 years)
"OpenID *IS* dead"

It is understandable that cash can make people disembarrass. But how to act when one does not have cash? The only one way is to try to get the credit loans and short term loan.
