Erase and rewind. The BBC plan to delete 172 sites from the bbc.co.uk domain, including WW2 People’s War, described thus: “The BBC asked the public to contribute their memories of World War Two to a website between June 2003 and January 2006. This archive of 47,000 stories and 15,000 images is the result.” Appalling.

  1. Perhaps because WWII represents an unsavory time in British history for the modern media liberal? Can't be passing along stories of heroism, selflessness, and independence.

  3. Simon, if anyone would know I'd think it would be you: is anyone actually working to mirror that content? Yes, the BBC should be publicly shamed for its callousness, but in the meantime it's possible to preserve what they choose to discard. So who's doing it?

  4. I'll be surprised if they don't change their minds about that particular site, seeing as they're going to get mauled in the press if they go through with it. That said, there are a bunch of archiving efforts going on right now - @friedcell sounds like he's making a good go of it: http://twitter.com/friedcell/status/34730874662555 648

  16. To delete 172 sites is an act that could not be justified. In my view they should atleast archive it for the future. Many data recovery software's are available. Have you heard of datanumen, One guy recommended me. Reviews and suggestions would be great.
