My email contacts list is not a social graph. It is not a group of people I have chosen to follow, but is instead full of people with whom I have a (sometimes very tenuous) professional relationship, as well as my family and some of my friends. Interestingly, my best friends don’t email me very often, so they do not show up as a part of my Buzz following list.
Agree 100%. And yet social networks have allowed (and continue to allow) users to leverage their address books to find people they *may* want to follow... Historically done via scraping (bad), more commonly now with OAuth (better.) Personally for instance, I have over 4000 contacts and follow only about 250 people (many of them not in my contacts.) No one is purporting that a "contact list is a social graph" of course.

Of course it's a social graph. It's the social graph of "email contacts". It's just not the same social graph.
