RasterWeb: Lanyrd. Pete Prodoehl calls me out on Lanyrd’s integration with the Twitter auth API at the expense of OpenID. I’ve posted a comment with my justification—essentially, tying to Twitter’s ecosystem means I can actually implement the features I’ve been talking about building on top of OpenID for years, with far less engineering effort.
Thanks for the comments... I didn't so much mean to "call you out" as I did make notice of something bigger that bothers me. Despite all that, Lanyrd is really well done! (In other sad news, logging in using OpenID to post this comment here failed. It's like some cruel joke on both of us.)

There are proposals in the works to use the OAuth-based login system that Twitter implements as the basis for a replacement for OpenID (which has way too many features).
Discovery would be simplified to a single host-meta lookup, and the identifiers used would be email addresses (and you wouldn't be able to log in with anything but the identifier that you provide at the RP's site).
Sadly, it's not really usable now. Simon (and Nat!), if you're interested in extending the login system to something usable that doesn't require a huge engineering investment, and doesn't lose the advantages that you've gained by having access to the Twitter profile, let me know - I'd love to help.
