  1. MacPorts doesn't _require_ su rights since 1.6.0 (I think, might be 1.7.0 though). It's not very well tested, but the core feature is there.

    (btw openid auth failed for me with openid "polytechnique.org")

  2. Try out Gentoo Prefix http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/gentoo-alt/prefix/. It bootstraps a whole gentoo system in your home folder and uses gentoo's 'emerge' package manager.
