ppk's tests are a testament to a rapidly improving mobile web, not a sign of a Mobipocalypse.
As is usual, ppk makes some great points, but let's be honest, the mobile web has advanced to the point where we are freaking out about whether a browser supports DOM features like contains(). Not long ago, mobile web browsers weren't even as good at browsing as Lynx!!!! And Javascript support prior to mobile Webkit ? (it is to laugh!)
If you look on ppk's chart at iPhone 3 and Safari 4 Win (the desktop version), you see that the near-future for Webkit on Mobile is actually pretty good, even if we will face a bit fragmentation as companies update their Webkit based browsers.
Thankfully it looks like Android and Pre are following Apple's approach of updating their mobile OS which was also pretty much non-existent prior to the iPhone.
