Hacker News thread on Negative Cashback. Is it common practice for online stores with affiliate referral schemes to artificially inflate their prices if they’re going to have to pay out a referral bonus?

  1. Here in Germany, I found that the vendors selling through Amazon are pricing all their products a bit higher than on their own website (for the 4/5 times I took the time to check).

Interestingly, I only once went the direct way (I knew the shop already) because usually the difference is not that big (maybe 3 to 5%) and buying through Amazon I get the insurance of good handling of everything.
