Phasing out support for IE 6 across all 37signals products on August 15, 2008. Interesting move considering BaseCamp is used for communicating with (often corporate) clients. It would be nice to see the browser stats behind the decision.

I can't imagine 37sig having an unusually low IE6 count than the average 30% which is now declining at less than 0.5%
http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.a sp even if they consider their clients more clueful than average.
I put it down to a combination of spite and laziness :)
Good move. We need others to follow to force late adopters of IE7/FF to get with the program.

To Tom Coady, I don't see this as spite. At some point in time we have to say, move on folks, there are better options.
Just because Microsoft orphaned the browser doesn't mean we have to stop to take care of it.

IE6 eats about half my time, either directly or in coming up with solutions that accommodate it.
To me, that means that the whole web will get better fast if we can stop supporting IE6.
IE7 finally passed up IE6 on the w3c stats (as of June). It seems like the moment is right to move people up out of IE6.
It's going to happen. Even my local newspaper's website has stopped working with IE6. They had tons of IE6 readers, but it was just too painful to support. People call and complain, and they just say, "sorry."
My solution is going to be, "You are running Internet Explorer 6. We recommend that you upgrade to IE7 or run the Adobe AIR version of [our web application.]"
