I don’t know about “every time”. The G4 cube and the Mac mini were pretty mold-breaking, and I don’t think they’ve been roaring successes.
Very true - the Newton and the Apple TV are two more examples. Charles' article is a heck of a lot better thought out than my one sentence summary :)
