Until recently, the news section wasn't particularly conservative.
You might be thinking of the opinion/editorial section which was overrun by whacko conspiracists with an agenda that made the National Review look left-leaning. That part was an embarrassment to anyone on the right or left.
It doesn't just happen in the US though, does it?
It's a reporter for the Wall Street Journal. Not all U.S. journalists report stories in this manner.

The Wall Street Journal used to have a top-notch reputation for reporting, better than pretty much any major newspaper in North America.

WSJ is a "conservative" newspaper and it's always been, which is natural considering that its core audience is made up by big-company businesspeople.
