Simon Willison’s Weblog

London Connections. Marvellously obsessive blog about the vagaries of London transport, including some really nice custom created maps. I love detailed maps of tube stations; anyone know a good place to find them?

  1. Have you not picked up "Mr Beck's Underground Map"? That's a lovely book on the early history of the London Tube map. I believe a follow-up was written, but I can't comment on that. It's clear the original book — like the map — was a labour of love (in that slightly obsessive, eccentric, English way).

  2. I'll check it out, but it's the stations themselves more than the actual lines that I'm interested. I'm fascinated by the 3D shape of the stations and the amount of space they take up underground compared to what's up above - this kind of thing, but more up to date and for stations other than just Piccadilly Circus.

  3. Have you seen this London Tubemap image? I've seen an even better version, it looked like a piece of abstract art, but I can't remember where I saw it.

  4. Ah, understood. I know what you mean, and that's tickling a memory—was it you posted a schematic of a particularly tricky tube stop to manoeuvre?
