There's also the skill factor. A good pint of Guinness takes about five minutes to pour (pull, settle; pull, settle). Most bar staff in England haven't copped on to that.
I also heard that it's a different recipe in the US. The alcohol content is at the point where it would have to be considered a malt liquor with different taxes etc. Don't know if this is true or not but having had it both in Ireland and the US, it is better in Ireland.
