UK domain registrar 123-Reg crashes and burns, taking its customers with it. I was hit by this yesterday: can anyone recommend an alternative DNS host with a really easy to use interface (I’ve made mistakes modifying DNS in the past) and rock-solid reliability?
I use http://everydns.net and never experimented downtimes (cross fingers). Their interface it's late 90's but still easy to use.

They took down many of my sites too. I'm pretty annoyed since it was down for so long with no explanation.
The Pipex site did note the issue but have not given any explanation.
123-reg has gone to the dogs since the acquisition by Pipex. I had already moved my webservers and mailservers onto my own box due to their incompetence, but given that DNS is the core of their business, I thought they would be able to get that right.
It looks like I'll need to run my own DNS server now too.

I found a bit more about it yesterday and posted something just now:

I should have moved earlier as I noticed DNS problems a few times earlier this month.

I lost my personal site on and off for a couple of days due to this. Not especially impressed.
http://joker.com has worked well for me; I can only recall one downtime in the last few years. It seems to be slightly cheaper than Gandi.

http://everydns.net/ all the way -- it was created by David Ulevitch in 2001, who started OpenDNS.com. Haven't had any issues at all.

Godaddy

For UK domain registration I *always* use just-the-name.co.uk
They aren't the cheapest, but very reliable (used by the BBC amongst others) and their control panel is straightforward.
GoDaddy - best price and an OK interface.

Phew, thankfully I ditched 123-reg in July and shifted eatyourgreens.org.uk over to eukhost. No downtime with them as yet. I don't know if they offer DNS registration seperate from their hosting services.

EasyDNS.com works great! Cheap, easy, reliable, and fast!
Not have used it but some well known blogger use http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/
I've been using DNS Made Easy for most of a year now (first djangosnippets, then my blog), and I've been happy with them; the web-based interface is plain but works well, and I've never seen them go down.

GoDaddy are terrible too. I would avoid.

Maybe it's just because I work in I.T but I have to say anyoen expecting 100% uptime is living in a different universe than the one we have here. If you want total control RUN your own name server and get your OWN IPS Tag, but be prepared for the cost. I have about 50 domains on 123 and whilst the problem was unfortunate, I have to say it's a fact of life. Stuff in I.T Breaks, I do agree with the point that the service with 1232 has reduced since pipex bought them.

Brooker: 123-reg went down for nearly 24 hours, and DNS has various features designed in to it to support reliability. I'd very much like to see their report on what went wrong.
I'm biased as I work for them, but you could try Blacknight Internet Solutions (http://blacknight.com/). Our DNS servers are quick and reliable, the DNS management console is pretty sane, though we'll be replacing it with a better one soon enough that'll allow programmatic access, and the prices for a .co.uk are reasonable at EUR8 (about £5.70str.) for 2 years.
Ok, I'm off to the shower after whoring myself like that... :-)

I've been using ZoneEdit for years, and have never had a problem.

I've set up my own DNS server now:

This was quite easy and I would recommend that others who have had problems consider it as an option.
