This is why my twitter feed is public. Like so many things on the internet, it's safer assumption to assume that anything that you post anywhere on the 'net will always be publicly accessible to anyone.
Of course, sites' APIs really need bounce authentication (like Flickr) rather than requiring you divulge your username and password. This way you can have better granularity on what you authorise them to expose...
