Making OpenID really really easy. I’ve been thinking along very similar lines: OpenID providers can construct a user’s OpenID URL for them by asking for a site that they use (AOL / LiveJournal / WordPress etc) and their username on that service.

  1. Isn't this equivalent to the format of an email id? Since we do not want to freely distribute a working email id we should probably replace "@" with something else, "&" perhaps? Still I prefer the URL format because it allows me to use delegation to avoid depending on a single provider.

  2. Now, you are missing the point. Alper proposes a way to auto-construct the URL for people who don't understand OpenID (read: my mother). Alper has some images in the article which give a good example.

The main idea is that most people don't understand that a URL can be an ID. it is just very confusing, just as most people in the beginning didn't understand the difference between an URL and an email address.
