A New Sith, or Revenge of the Hope (via) Reconsidering Star Wars IV in the light of I-III. It turns out R2-D2 and Chewie were the most significant characters by quite a long way.

  1. I similarly stumbled upon this brilliant piece of work only this morning. I thought it was funny and surprisingly plausible (conspiracy theory for Star Wars fans).

I've always believed that R2D2's involvement has always been unjustly mimimized, presumably because it undermines Lucas's support of droid slavery (Star Wars is at best neutral on the ethics of slavery in general, and baldly pro-slavery for artificial life forms). Having a character talk in a foreign language without subtitles is an excellent way to subliminally train the audience to see them as nonpeople.
