Lawrence Journal-World Marketplace (via) While other newspapers complain about competition from the internet, my former employer is embracing it. This is why local newspapers still matter.

  1. I just wish all local newspapers were so enlightened, and interesting. Not all communities are so interesting as Lawrence, but they're way more interesting than most local papers would make you think.

For instance, my local newspapers have no websites, don't really promote many things in the community that interest me at all, and their lead story is usually something along the lines of 'Grandmother victimised by pre-teen robbers!'

Pure, unadultered crap, in other words.
