Working for Yahoo!
I guess it’s about time I blogged this: Monday was my first official day working for Yahoo! I’ve joined the new Technology Development group, first mentioned by Jeremy Zawodny a couple of months ago. My first assignment is with the Flickr team, where I will be working on some Cool New Stuff. How exciting is that?
I’m in California this week, but I’ll be working from the London offices for the next year.
Congrats!

...and even more so when said people use their impressive powers to educate others.
Congratulations Simon, well deserved! :)

congratulations! I've been reading your site for a long time and always found it a great resource. Yahoo! have nabbed themselves an excellent employee.
Certainly come a long long way since TFC Central... ;)

That's truly awesome, Simon. There are few cooler webapp teams to be working on on the planet.
I went to a PHP conference in Vancouver once, and the Flickr guy did a presentation about how Flickr uses PHP. We were all duly impressed.
I loved the idea of Flickr, but didn't really use it for a project until just recently. I love being able to use Uploadr and drag/drop an entire directory of photos and have it resize, upload, and give me a long webform to quickly rename and add descriptions and tags.
I almost put cash on the barrelhead, but for one problem. No way to easily reverse the order of sets. You upload and the default order is reverse chronological. If you want it to tell the story of a set in chronological, you have to use a 3rd party tool. DAMN I wish it had this feature and so do a lot of other people, from the look of the support boards.

. . . while your paperwork is sorted out, no doubt! I know how that goes. ;-p
Well done, and good fortune to you at Yahoo! :-)
