Ghost town, sponsored by Google

Via Boing Boing, this fascinating and utterly chilling photographic journey through the abandoned ruins of the Chernobyl dead zone.

As an aside, the free hosting provide used by the site appears to be inserting Google ads. Make sure you look out for them as you explore the site; the relevance algorithm gets stretched to the limit.

  1. How in the world did you find that site? One of the things that drive me crazy, living in the USA, is the complete lack of follow-up on previous front-page news. (Front-page and on every friggin' news channel carrying the same story for two weeks.)

If it isn't Martha Stewart, Iraq, or the elections (or a random violent event like murder or a runaway felon speeding into an oncoming vehicle and killing someone), we don't hear about it.

Chernobyl, along with the Bosnia crisis (remember that?), the AIDS epidemic and many other topics have just fallen to the wayside.

Thanks for that poignant and frightening update on the Chernobyl incident. -Reynaud.

  2. This was on Slashdot a couple hours before here, but it looks like Boingboing had it maybe 10 hours before that.
