Via WaSP. When the 13th International World Wide Web Conference gets it this badly wrong it’s obvious that something about our industry is fundamentally broken.

And with that note, I’m off to SXSW.

  1. Hope your bus ride is safe and not too eventful. :) See you there.

  2. Not to mention the CommonPitfall of assuming that everyone surfs with a white background-color... never pretty :-)

  4. At least it's accessible. Wouldn't you love to hear a screen reader reading that alt-text?

  5. Ouch... "13th international www conference"... "top-logo"... "NY, NY sheraton - may 17-22"... "program"... "bot-logo"... "chairs"... "nyc"... "photogallery"... "schedule"... "registration"... "non data table graphics"... "non data table graphics"... Some still wonder why they don't need to cater for the disabled? I feel pained just trying to read it.

  6. I like thinking that www2004 and lockergnome's redesigns are early April jokes.
I dislike knowing that they're not.

  7. Shocking? Are you sure that is the right word? How about old-fashoined?

  8. Definitely shocking. Old fashioned would be if they had omitted alt attributes entirely. The fact is that they added alt attribute in such a way as to decrease the accessibility of the site - which is just shockingly negligent. It's not like it's any old site either; this is the official site for the biggest WWW conference in the world!
