Halloween Decorations

Spotted so far:

Quite a poor showing really. I was going to add a bat to my top right hand corner but Halloween is already over in the UK so it didn’t seem worth it.

This is Halloween Decorations by Simon Willison, posted on 1st November 2003.

  1. Well, nobody reads my blog ;), but I decorated.

Since I already have a style switcher on the site that offers different color schemes, I keep a css template file handy for when I want a new color scheme... instead of color values, it has 'PRI0' (Primary color 0), 'PRI1', 'CON' (contrast color), etc. Once I pick a few colors using Pixy's color scheme tool (link on my site in today's entry) or similar tool, I just search and replace the template, and I'm done (aside from adding the new <link> element.

  2. Hey, that's a pretty cool idea. I've always been bugged by the way CSS doesn't allow you to set a kind of "macro" for specifying colours (discussed previously here) - having a template stylesheet with special variables to search and replace is a neat compromise.

  3. Have you seen Wired News today? They're recycling the same version I created for them last year just a couple weeks after we launched the new design.
