Getting Linux to talk to an iPAQ

I’m playing around with a borrowed Compaq iPAQ at the moment. Unfortunately I don’t have permission to go the whole hog and install linux on it but, as the next best thing, I’ve been working out how to get it to talk to my Linux box. A quick Google search brought up SynCE, an open source project providing all kinds of software to allow communication between *nix and handhelds running Pocket PC. So far I’ve got the command line tools working which allow me to transfer files to and from the iPAQ and start up iPAQ programs remotely. The next step is synchronisation with Evolution.

  2. I've had a 5450 for the last few weeks (has to go back now, the supplier has realised they sent 2 instead of one). I have to say that they're very impressive bits of kit. The biometric fingerprint scanner is something to really impress your mates with - very sci-fi. ;-) I think I'll but myself one next month. :-)

  3. They really are very cool little toys, with definite potential for development. I haven't quite plucked up the necessary courage to switch my iPAQ 3950 to Linux yet, maybe sometime in the future. In the mean time however, python CE adds a bit more interactivity to the standard iPAQ running v3.0 of windows CE.
