Norwegian Hixie

Congratulations Hixie on his new job at Opera software, in sunny Norway. That’s a pretty exciting opportunity. Does this mean he’ll be contributing less to the Mozilla project? (Dave Hyatt has managed to keep working on it despite his move to Apple).

  1. "Work today consisted of an extended tour of the (ever growing) Oslo office" Wow...growing office... hiring employees from other countries...I always thought Opera was a basement operation of sorts. I don't mean that to denegrate them, but I can't fathom how they are generating enough money to be anything more than a basement operation. Good for them. Good for Hixie.

  2. The impression I've always got is that Opera do pretty well for themselves. I think their big break was their deal with Nokia - Opera is the browser bundled with the new generation of Nokia phones, and that's a pretty huge market. Their technology is pretty awesome, even if the user interface is a bit of a nightmare (but then it is aimed at power users).

  3. Just wondering, but are you absolutely sure that Dave is still working for mozilla. I know he is a module owner but I don't know if he stays there because nobody was able to replace him or that by courtesy nobody says him to leave or something else. I don't think he is working too much on the mozilla. Fortunately mozilla is good enough.
