W3C redesign

The W3C have redesigned to use CSS instead of tables (new layout explained here). About time too! It’s a shame the site still looks so, well, ugly. I know it’s a technical site and it doesn’t have to look pretty but it would be a lot easier to convince designers to try out CSS and web standards if they didn’t get instantly put off the W3C by the ugliness of the front page.

This is W3C redesign by Simon Willison, posted on 7th December 2002.

  1. Ah, but here's the really cool thing about the new W3C site-- if you don't like the way it looks, you can write a stylesheet that will make it look better, and then send it to them as a suggestion for a new look. I actually have one or two of these lying around somewhere from a previous personal project, and should probably publish them. Now, if they'd only add a CSS signature, we'd really be in business, because then everyone could write rules into their user stylesheets and have their own customized W3C page...
