<p>It has since been entirely taken over by pelicans!</p>

<p>Morris is a local celebrity: the only known Northern Gannet (<em>Morus bassanus</em>) in the entire Pacific Ocean.</p>
<p>They showed up in the Farallon Islands off the coast of San Francisco <a href="https://baynature.org/magazine/spring2017/atlantic-bird-makes-home-california-maybe-melting-arctic-ice/">14 years ago</a>. They have since made Pillar Point harbor their home, where they are quite easy to spot: the only white bird with a yellow head, usually hanging out with the smaller black Brandt’s cormorants near the harbor sign visible from the end of the commercial pier.</p>

<p>There is a young humpback whale in the harbor at Pillar Point, just north of Half Moon Bay, California right now. Their name is Teresa T and they were first spotted on Thursday afternoon.</p>
<p>I caught <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyP9OQZcBrs">this video</a> of the whale at at 8:30am Friday morning.</p>

<p>Teresa is still cruising around the harbor now, on Saturday evening. We're all hoping they'll head out to the ocean again soon - they appear to be in good health, and the relevant authorities are not yet concerned that they'll have trouble finding their way out once they lose interest in the local fish, pelicans, harbor seals and onlookers.</p>

Nat and I built this over the weekend. It asks for your location, then tells you where your nearest Owl is (using sightings data people have entered on WildlifeNearYou.com). If you’re using Firefox 3.6 or an iPhone it grabs your location using the W3C geolocation API so you don’t have to type anything at all.
