    If only there had been *some* discussion in the CSS/web standards communities about how to do columns using divs...

  2. Yep. Joe, I tried and tried. A smarter person could have done better, but after many months I found myself scripting on top of a DOM where every element was nine levels of nested divs, all there as the result of good advice from experts. I realized I was spending more time hacking CSS than I was writing the CMS.

    At a certain point (about when IE7 was released) I gave up in total despair, plugged in some tables, and found myself with about half as much HTML and a much simpler DOM. Eventually I'll rip out the guts and start again from scratch.
